Monsoon Tracker: Rain in Mumbai for the third day, water-logged in low-lying areas; Monsoon reached Madhya Pradesh 7 days ago

Monsoon has reached Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat after raining in many districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai. Monsoon has arrived in Madhya Pradesh 7 days earlier than expected. A low-pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal towards the northwest. Due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the areas of Odisha and West Bengal adjoining the Ganges. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert in 20 states including Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh has received 75 mm of rain, Mumbai's Santacruz 107 mm, Konkan's Dahanu 64 mm, and Assam's Silchar 64 mm.

 

Rain worsens the situation in Mumbai

Torrential rains have started again in Mumbai on Friday. IMD has issued heavy rain alerts in Mumbai and surrounding areas for the whole day. Due to the incessant rain since early Friday, waterlogging has started in the low-lying areas of the city.

Roads and underpasses have been flooded in many areas of Colaba, Andheri, Sion, Mahim, King's Circle, Hindmata, Dadar, and Parel in Mumbai. However, the drainage of water is also continuing due to light rain. Because of the apprehension of heavy rains, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of the general public on Marine Drive after 9 am. Like Mumbai, heavy rains are continuing in Navi Mumbai and Thane.

 

Mumbai received 107.4 mm of rain during the last 24 hours

According to the weather forecasting body 'Skymet', this is the most spectacular start in recent days with rain doubling in three digits in 24 hours. In the first 10 days of June, Mumbai has recorded 426.9 mm of rain, which is 338 mm more than the normal 89 mm. During the last 24 hours (Thursday 8.30 am to Friday 8.30 am) in Mumbai, Colomba has received 23.4 mm and Santa Cruz 107.4 mm of rain.

There is also an alert of high tide in Mumbai amid rain. High tide is expected in Mumbai at 12:54 pm on Friday. At that time, about 4 and a half meters high waves can rise in the sea. Because of the forecast of heavy rains in some parts of Maharashtra, 15 teams of NDRF have been deployed in many areas. NDRF Director General SN Pradhan tweeted that 4 teams have been deployed in Ratnagiri, 2 teams each in Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Palghar, Raigad, and Thane, and one team in Kurla.

 

Maharashtra: Heavy rain expected in these cities today

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in Mumbai and suburbs between June 11 and 15. Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Palghar, and Alibaug are at risk of waterlogging during this period. During this period, other areas of Konkan including Sindhudurg, Raigad, Mahabaleshwar, and Ratnagiri are also likely to receive heavy rains. Bad weather is attacking Mumbai from two fronts. A moderate cyclonic circulation is persisting over East Central and North Arabian Sea.

 

Late-night rain in Delhi NCR

The weather of Delhi NCR has become pleasant due to rain late on Thursday. The maximum temperature was recorded at 39.8 degrees while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29 degrees. This is 1 degree above normal. People have got relief from the heat due to rain. According to the State Meteorological Department, light rain may occur in many areas of Delhi NCR on Friday as well. An intermittent drizzle is likely in Delhi for a week. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius at 8 am on Friday.

 

Madhya Pradesh: Monsoon will reach Indore-Bhopal by June 13-14

The Southwest Monsoon has entered Madhya Pradesh on Thursday via Betul, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat, and Mandla. The meteorologist said that due to the continuous active monsoon in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal for 10 days, Madhya Pradesh has also reached earlier. However, it is expected to be fully active by June 20. Monsoon is likely to reach Indore-Bhopal by June 13-14.

48 hours alert issued in Bihar

Favorable Monsoon conditions are becoming over South-West of Bihar. The Meteorological Department has issued a 48-hour alert in the state. There is an alert of heavy rain with lightning in 16 districts, while moderate rain is expected in 22 districts. Monsoon may enter the state from Jamui, Banka, Katihar, and Purnia adjoining the Jharkhand border around June 15. From here the monsoon will proceed through Patna, Gaya, Nalanda.
