Nepal political crisis: Chinese ambassador visits mean?

During these meetings and discussions, an important meeting of the ruling Communist Party on Monday was canceled in which it was said that the demand for Oli's resignation might have reached its conclusion. This is not the first time of such meetings with the leaders of CPN of Rajudut Yankee. In May too, a lot of people had their eyes on similar steps against the growing opposition against Prime Minister Oli.

 

KC Khadga, head of international affairs at Tribhuvan University, says that "the meeting between the Ambassador and CPN leaders amidst political tussle has given rise to a lot of speculation but I think there should be no interference in our internal affairs".

 

China's growing influence

After the dispute with India over Lipulekh, Kalapani and Lipiadhura, Prime Minister Oli had even alleged in Parliament that some people are trying to topple his government with the help of India. Party spokesperson Qazi Shrestha, however, denied that Nepal's internal politics was going on at the behest of external forces and added that "Nepal as a sovereign country is capable of taking its own decisions." We oppose any kind of interference in our affairs and we dislike it.

 

However, when he was asked to explain this statement, he said that his tweet is not about any particular person.

 

He said, 'The Prime Minister made a statement that India is plotting to oust him from power. Now people are saying that the Chinese Ambassador is trying to resolve the differences between the anti-CPN camps. My view is that we are free and can resolve our differences by sitting together.

 

But journalist Yubraj Ghimire believes that China's increased influence in Nepal cannot be completely ruled out and should be seen as a reaction to India's "very aggressive policy in Nepal" in this century.

 

'The government of a country which itself considers Maoists to be the biggest threat to internal security, decides to participate in the power of the same Maoists in the neighboring country and then makes other powers to participate in it, surrounded by a four-pronged country. They say that incidents like the border dispute give more air to the anti-India atmosphere.

 

In the last few years, China has been trying to strengthen its strategic ties with investment, due to the changed mood in Nepal for India and spreading its foot in Asia.

 

Ghimire says that what China is doing today in Nepal has also been done by India, although the Nepalese want their relations to be as far away from both.
