What is the Nipah virus?

Nipah Virus in India is a virus that spreads from animals to humans. It spreads especially through bats. The first case of Nipah was found among pig farmers in Malaysia in 1998. Its name was coined from the village in Malaysia where its first case was found.

 

WHO has placed this virus in the category of Ebola, Zika, and Corona virus. This is because it has the potential to spread epidemics. Nipah virus usually spreads through animals and contaminated food, but recently it has been seen that it can also spread directly from human to human.

 

Why is everyone expressing concern?

Everyone is worried about Nipah Virus in India because this virus has a high mortality rate. The mortality rate of the victims has been estimated at 75 percent. Another reason for concern is that no vaccine has been released yet.

 

What are the symptoms of the Nipah virus?

In the Nipah virus, the victim has to face high fever, vomiting, and problems in breathing. To make matters worse, the victim's brain may be affected and he may even go into a coma.
