However, the official list of nominees is kept confidential for 50 years. In 2024, the award was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo of Japan, an organization of nuclear survivors.

 

On the other hand, experts believe that selecting a winner may be a bit more difficult. This year, the situation is extremely serious, with conflicts raging around the world. Events such as direct confrontation between Israel and Iran, the conflict in Gaza, drone and missile attacks between India and Pakistan, and the Thailand-Cambodia border dispute have all created a tense atmosphere. A record number of state-level wars also occurred in 2024, according to data from Uppsala University in Sweden.

 

Who are the leading contenders among this year's 338 nominations?

 

Several influential names are being discussed for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms, which are risking their lives to save lives in war-torn areas, are considered strong contenders. Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, is also on the list, carrying forward her husband's legacy on the international stage. Furthermore, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which plays an active role in election monitoring and the defense of democracy, is also a leading candidate.

 

UN organizations may also be eligible for the award.

Some experts believe that the Nobel Committee will want to send a message in support of the global order this time, especially against leaders who challenge it, such as Donald Trump. Consequently, the list of potential winners includes UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee Affairs), and UNRWA (United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees).

 

However, some believe that organizations working on global justice or press freedom may also receive honors, including the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, the Committee to Protect Journalists, and Reporters Without Borders.

History shows that the Nobel Committee sometimes awards prizes to people or organizations that no one would expect. Therefore, this time too, a surprising name may emerge. It is now certain that Donald Trump will not be the winner, no matter how deserving he considers himself.
