Chasing the target of 142 runs, New Zealand got off to an aggressive start by Tim Seifert (79 *). He added 40 runs for the first wicket with Chad Bowes (31). Bowes also took an aggressive approach and scored 31 runs in just 15 balls with the help of 7 fours. Kasun Rajith ended Bowes' innings by getting caught by Dhananjay de Silva.
Seifert dominated from here on. He made an unbeaten century partnership for the second wicket with captain Tom Latham (20 *) and sealed the team's victory. Seifert scored an unbeaten 79 in only 43 balls with the help of three fours and 6 sixes. Kasun Rajith got the only breakthrough for Sri Lanka.
Deadly bowling from Adam Milne

Then Adam Milne got Pathum Nissanka (9) out and caught by Lister. Kusal Perera (35) and Dhananjay de Silva (37) added 62 runs for the third wicket. Milne broke the partnership by getting Perera caught by Neesham.
