Even though the ceasefire between Iran and Israel has happened, India is continuously carrying out Operation Sindhu to evacuate its citizens trapped there. In this sequence, a special evacuation aircraft reached New Delhi late at night from Yerevan, Armenia. 173 Indian citizens were brought back home from Iran in this aircraft. It is worth noting that under Operation Sindhu, a total of 4415 Indian citizens (3597 from Iran and 818 from Israel) have been evacuated so far using 19 special evacuation flights including three Indian Air Force aircraft.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, 'Under Operation Sindhu, a special aircraft from Yerevan (Armenia) reached Delhi on June 26 at 10:30 pm. In this, 173 Indian citizens were brought back safely from Iran. So far, a total of 4415 Indians have been evacuated through this operation. Out of these, 3597 people have been brought from Iran and 818 people from Israel. For this, 19 special flights were used, including 3 Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft. Apart from this, some other people have also been evacuated from Iran. These include 14 OCI cardholders, 9 Nepali citizens, 4 Sri Lankan citizens, and the Iranian wife of an Indian citizen.
Operation Sindhu was started on June 18
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Operation Sindhu was started on June 18. About 10,000 Indians live in Iran and about 40,000 in Israel. He also thanked the governments of Iran, Turkmenistan and Armenia for helping India to evacuate its citizens safely.
During this, an Indian student evacuated from Iran thanked PM Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs. She said that we have very good facilities and on behalf of all the students, I thank our Prime Minister, Ministry of External Affairs for doing a great job. At the same time, another student said that the government helped us in every aspect. He did whatever he could there.
Indian Embassy closed the contact desk given the ceasefire.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Iran had said on Wednesday that the process of bringing Indian citizens to India would gradually end given the ceasefire between the two countries. The embassy posted a related post on social media. He said that the embassy had closed the contact desk, which was opened to register new names for evacuation. Also, the Government of India is constantly monitoring the emerging situation and will re-evaluate its strategy in case there is a threat to the safety of Indian citizens in Iran again.
