New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Monday launched a webpage to mark the 152nd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is also celebrated as National Youth Day.
The webpage contains rare archival photographs of Vivekananda and audio recordings of his famous speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago Sep 11, 1893.
It also shows Vivekananda's journey in a chronological way, from early childhood to his meeting with Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, his tour across India and the world, and his experience at the Parliament of Religions.
The page has been constructed from material obtained from the exhibition wing of the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP, Ramakrishna Mission in Belur Math, Howrah, Advaita Ashram in Kolkata and Ramakrishna Mission in New Delhi. Features on Vivekananda by eminent journalists are also part of the page.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh paid tributes to Vivekananda.
"I bow to Swami Vivekananda. He is a personal inspiration. His thoughts and ideals have influenced me deeply," the prime minister said in a statement.
"Swami Vivekananda is revered as one of the most prolific thinkers and a guiding light who took India's message to the entire world," Modi added.
Rajnath Singh said Vivekananda was the first "global youth" of India.
