He served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank. He was the Finance Minister in the government of former PM PV Narasimha Rao and laid the foundation of economic liberalization in the country.'
PM Modi said that 'His dedication towards the people and the development of the country will always be seen with great respect. Dr. Manmohan Singh's life was a symbol of honesty and simplicity. His gentleness and intelligence were the hallmarks of his life. I remember, when his term in the Rajya Sabha ended, I had said that his dedication as an MP is worth learning.'
The Prime Minister said, 'Despite holding high positions, Manmohan Singh never forgot his roots. He was easily available to everyone. When I was the Chief Minister, I used to discuss national and international issues with Manmohan Singh with an open mind. Even after coming to Delhi, I used to discuss with him from time to time, I will always remember those discussions and meetings. Today, in this difficult time, I offer my condolences to his family.'
