Chandigarh: The Punjab Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution against three new agricultural laws of the Center. With this, Punjab has become the first state to do so concerning agricultural laws. After approving the proposal, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh along with his MLAs went to meet the Governor.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Agriculture Bill became a law after it was passed by the Parliament, but the Assembly unanimously rejected those Acts. We have passed a resolution and come here together. We gave copies of the proposal to the Governor and requested him to approve it.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh moved a resolution in the state assembly against three new agricultural laws of the Center. In the proposal, the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020 of the Center was also rejected. A total of four resolutions have been passed.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that after extensive consultation with various experts, he signed a resolution against "anti-farmer laws" at 9.30 am.
'Ready to resign'
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that instead of bowing to the 'injustice' being done to the farmers of Punjab, he is ready to resign. He also warned that the new agricultural laws implemented by the Center could disrupt the peace of the state and threaten national security.
"I wonder what the Indian government wants to do," he said. The resolution called for the repeal of the three agricultural laws and the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020.
It has sought to "announce a new ordinance to make the purchase of food grains at the minimum support price a statutory right of the farmers" and to continue "procurement by the Government of India through FCI and other such agencies".
The resolution expressed deep grief over the "harsh and inconsistent attitude" of the Government of India, because of the concerns of the farming community on the state government's "recent agricultural law enacted by them".
The Agricultural Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill-2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance Agreement, and the Agreement on Agricultural Services Bill-2020 were recently passed in Parliament.
After President Ram Nath Kovind approved them, now these laws have been made. Three Bills introduced by Singh against him, Farmer Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment Bill 2020, Essential Commodities (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement Price Assurance and Agriculture The Services (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill 2020. Singh said that these bills will further become the basis of the legal battle of the state.
