Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. Ashwin wrote in the tweet, 'Today is a special day and hence a special beginning too. It is said that every end brings a new beginning. My time as an IPL cricketer is ending today, but my journey of new sports experiences in different leagues around the world begins today. I would like to thank all the franchises that gave me great memories and relationships. Most importantly, I thank the IPL and BCCI, who have given me so much so far. I am excited to enjoy the time ahead and make the best use of it.'
Ashwin's IPL career
Apart from CSK, Ashwin has been a part of Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He has also captained the Punjab team. Ashwin took 187 wickets in 220 matches in the IPL. His economy rate was 7.2. His best performance was four wickets for 34 runs. Apart from this, he also scored 833 runs at a strike rate of 118.16. This includes a half-century. Through this league, Ashwin became famous all over the world and made a place in the Indian team. Ashwin participated in 16 out of 18 seasons of IPL.
