Warangal (Andhra Pradesh), April 25 (IANS) Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi again targeted TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao for betraying the Congress and said his only aim is to become the chief minister of Telangana.
Addressing an election meeting at Madikonda in Warangal district Friday, he said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader had gone back on his word to make a Dalit as the first chief minister of Telangana.
"TRS leader said he will merge his party with Congress. He came to my office, shook hands, hugged me and said I am with you. After few hours he said I am not with Congress. Its okay if he had betrayed Congress but he also forgot the promise he made to you.
"He said a Dalit will become Telangana's chief minister but now his only aim is to himself become the chief minister," he said.
Gandhi, who is on the second leg of the campaigning in Telangana, said the Congress fulfilled the 60-year-old dream of Telangana people by carving out a separate state. He said the TRS had no role either in drafting the Telangana bill or passing it in parliament.
The Congress leader said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) opposed the bill in the Parliament.
He assured the people that promises made by the Congress to both Telangana and Rayalaseema will be fulfilled.
Stating that formation of Telangana is the first step, Gandhi asked people to dream big to develop the state.
He said the Congress wanted to develop Telangana as a manufacturing hub and as part of this a 4,000 MW power plant would be set up in the region.
"I dream of a day when all the goods carry the label of made in Warangal, made in Telangana and made in India," he said.
