The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim relief to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, giving his lawyer until 3 pm to deposit a demand draft of ₹1.5 crore in the name of the respondent in connection with a cheque bounce case.

The Delhi HC placed these conditions before the actor:

The court clarified that Rajpal Yadav must return the entire amount by March 18th; only then will his sentence be stayed, and he will be released. Following this, the Delhi High Court granted bail to actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case involving ₹9 crore after he deposited ₹2.5 crore. The actor deposited ₹1.75 crore today, in addition to the ₹75 lakh he had previously deposited.

Why did the actor seek interim bail?

The actor had sought interim bail to attend his niece's wedding on February 19th. The actor-comedian has been granted interim bail until March 18th. If he deposits the entire amount before then, he will be released. This action stems from a check-bounce case in which Yadav challenged his sentencing order.

Rajpal Yadav Check Bounce Case

According to the complainant's lawyer, Avneet Singh Sikka, the actor signed seven checks, each worth ₹1.5 crore. Following the check bounces, Yadav was sentenced to three months in jail and a fine of ₹1.35 crore on each check.

The complainant's lawyer further stated that Yadav neither paid the fine nor succeeded in getting his sentence suspended. The High Court had previously found no merit in his application for suspension. It was also stated that in 2024, Yadav proposed a settlement through mediation, but reportedly did not pay the balance.

Rajpal Yadav Bail Hearing Updates

Subsequently, Yadav surrendered, changed his legal representation, and has now filed a new application for interim bail to attend a family function. The Delhi High Court has now linked his interim release to the immediate deposit of ₹1.5 crore (US$1.5 million) and set a 3 p.m. deadline for compliance. Rajpal met this deadline and was granted bail.

Although Rajpal Yadav has been released following the court order, his problems remain, and he will have to pay the money within the stipulated time, only then will he be acquitted in this case.
