Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has been charged with violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the match against Bangladesh. The star spinner has been penalized for slamming his bat on the ground after his partner Karim Janat refused to take a second run on the second ball of the last over of the innings.
The incident happened in the last over of Afghanistan's innings, when Rashid lost his temper after Janat refused to take a second run. The ICC said, "Rashid was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff, which relates to throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player inappropriately or dangerously during an international match."
In this match, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by eight runs and made it to the semi-finals. The ICC further said, "In addition, one demerit point has been added to Rashid's disciplinary record, this was his first offense in 24 months." Rashid has accepted the ban proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Panel of ICC Match Referees.
