New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) The Sahitya Akademi set up its first bookshop on the Delhi Metro rail circuit at the Kashmere Gate station, a statement said Sunday.
A joint initiative by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Sahitya Akademi, the bookshop opened Feb 5 and will offer 15 percent discount to all commuters.
"The idea is to promote Indian literature by providing quality books in Indian languages published by the Akademi and also to cultivate reading habits among Metro commuters and employees. Limited edition of DMRC publications will also be sold," said the statement.
"The bookshop, located at the elevated section of the station is offering 15 percent discount to commuters, who present their Metro smart card," it added.
A similar bookshop will also be opened shortly at Vishwavidayla Metro station, which witnesses the footfalls of young students and academicians besides the general public.
The Delhi Metro has already opened two bookshops in association with the National Book Trust at Kashmere Gate and Vishwavidyalaya Metro stations in 2014.
