As far as the violence is concerned, the police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail, he said. The government and police officials have brought the situation under control, he said. Schools and colleges were closed till yesterday, but they have reopened today.
There was a ruckus over the banner
Shivamogga police said that a group of Tipu Sultan's followers tried to remove Veer Savarkar's banner on August 15 to put up Tipu Sultan's banner in the city's Amir Ahmed circle. This caused an uproar. Section 144 has been imposed immediately. The police also had to resort to a mild lathi charge. Savarkar was a Hindutva ideologue, while Tipu Sultan was the 18th-century Mysore ruler. During a clash between two communities over the banner, a youth named Prem Singh was stabbed.
