India's stand has been neutral since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Germany is now discussing whether to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G-7 summit to be held in June. The meeting of the G-7 countries is going to be held in Germany from 26 to 28 June.
According to a Bloomberg report, people with knowledge of the matter said that Germany is inviting Senegal, South Africa, and Indonesia as guests for the meeting to be held in Bavaria, but whether India should be included in it or not, is not the case. But still, the brainstorming is going on.
Why revisit the list?
The guest list was prepared even before the attack on Ukraine, in which India was also there. But 50 days after the war broke out, this list is being reconsidered. Because India did not participate in any voting against Russia held in the UN. A resolution was brought to the United Nations to exclude Russia from the Human Rights Council. 50 countries including India had distanced themselves from voting on this proposal. Apart from this, India has also not imposed sanctions on Russia. At the same time, it has continued to buy oil and weapons from Russia.
The guest list will be final soon
German government spokesman Steffen Hebstraat said the G-7 guest list would be finalized soon. He said the chancellor has reiterated many times that as many of Germany's international partners as possible impose sanctions against Russia. India has not yet commented on this.
Germany is also being criticized
Germany itself is facing criticism from Ukraine and Poland for its reliance on Russian energy imports. Many European countries, including Germany, have dependencies on Russia. Recently, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar pointed out that Europe buys more oil from Russia in a day than India does not buy from Russia in a month.
