Lucknow, Feb 11 (IANS) Striking lawyers of Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareilly and Moradabad divisions in Uttar Pradesh will call on union Law Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda Wednesday, demanding the jurisdiction of the Lucknow bench of the HC be expanded.
Lawyers in the region have been on strike since Jan 7 and most legal work in these courts has come to a grounding halt.
They had met union Home Minister and city MP Rajnath Singh during his last visit wherein he promised to take up the matter with Gowda, the Awadh Bar Association (ABA) said.
The meeting is a follow up to our efforts to find a solution to the impasse, president of the ABA, Amitabh Mishra, said, adding they have petitioned Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too.
"We are hopeful that a solution to the problem, keeping in mind the interests of the lawyers and the people, will evolve soon," he said.
