Vehicles floating on the roads of Delhi, waterlogging in MPs' residences; Monsoon rains have disrupted life in many states.

The monsoon that reached Delhi after soaking many states has made a strong impact. The first and just 24 hours of rain broke the record of 88 years. The 228.1 mm rainfall from Thursday morning to 8:30 am on Friday was just short of breaking the record of 124 years (from 1901 to 2024).

 

This rain has not only fulfilled the quota of March to June but also one-third of the total monsoon rainfall. Rainfall is expected every day till July 4. Heavy rainfall is possible on Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert. According to meteorologists, a storm hit the north of New Delhi on Friday at around 2.45 am Indian time. The presence of a large storm that had already hit Uttar Pradesh played an important role in making its impact more effective. That is why there was so much record rainfall.

 

One person died due to rain in Delhi. Due to rain, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, while on Thursday it was 28.6 degrees. The maximum temperature was recorded at 32.5 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal. A day earlier it was 35.4 degrees. The humidity level in the air was recorded at 100 to 71 percent.

 

Life in the capital was disrupted due to the first rain of the monsoon. Due to this, one person died and more than 70 people were injured in the accident.

 

Waterlogging in the houses of many MPs

 

In Lutyens Delhi, along with the bungalows of Union Ministers and MPs, military officers, central officers, and industrialists also came under the grip of waterlogging. Water accumulated up to two to three feet in their houses. SP leader and MP Ram Gopal Yadav was carried from his house to the car by his employees in their arms so that he could go to Parliament.

 

A similar situation arose with many other MPs. The house of Delhi's water minister Atishi, who was on a dharna for water a few days ago, was also flooded with rain and sewer water. There was chaos of waterlogging everywhere.

 

People in embassies, high commissions, and state buildings were seen crying for help. NDRF also had to come in for relief and rescue operations. Most of the roads were jammed throughout the day. There was a three to four-km-long jam on GT Karnal Highway. Vikas Marg from Laxmi Nagar to Lutyens Delhi was jammed for hours.

 

13 dead in UP, five killed in Rajasthan

 

13 people died due to rain-related accidents in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. An alert for heavy rain has been issued for the next two days. Moderate to heavy rain has been occurring in Rajasthan for three consecutive days. Five people have died in rain-related accidents in three days.

 

On Friday, five people were injured in Jhunjhunu due to an electric current. Monsoon entered Haryana via Rajasthan. Monsoon, which arrived in Bhiwani on Friday morning, rained in many parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab within 10 hours. Monsoon has covered the entire Uttarakhand. A yellow alert has been issued regarding landslides in sensitive areas.

 

Rain has become a disaster in Himachal as well.

 

The first monsoon rain in Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla has scared people. Nine vehicles got buried in the debris that came with the water. Water and debris also entered many houses. Landslides have occurred in many places. Heavy rain in Kunihar of Solan has posed a threat to Gambhar Bridge.

 

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding rain for five days. Due to strong southwestern winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, widespread rain is likely in the districts of North Bengal for the next five days.
