Waqf Amendment Bill: 'No one will understand anyone's bad words or sorrows, the sky will never understand the pain of the earth', said Rijiju in Lok Sabha

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. During this, Rijiju said, '... No one will understand anyone's bad words. The sky will never understand the pain of the earth... I not only hope, but I am confident that the hearts of those opposing this bill will also change. Everyone will support this bill with positive thinking.'

 

Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, '... I want to say that the discussion that has taken place on the Waqf Amendment Bill in the joint committee of both houses has never happened in the parliamentary history of India to date. I thank and congratulate all the members of the joint committee. So far, a total of 284 delegations of state holders of various communities have presented their views and suggestions before the committee. Waqf boards of 25 state governments and union territories have also presented their presentations.

 

'The Parliament House in which we are sitting could also be claimed to be a Waqf property'

 

During this, Rijiju also told many incidents while stressing the need for the law. He said, 'A case going on in Delhi since 1970 was related to many properties including CGO Complex and Parliament House. The Delhi Waqf Board had claimed these to be Waqf properties. The matter was in court, but at that time the UPA government had denotified 123 properties and handed them over to the Waqf Board. If we had not introduced this amendment today, the Parliament House in which we are sitting could also be claimed to be a Waqf property. If PM Modi's government had not come to power, many properties would have been de-notified.'

 

You are forcibly imposing the law: Venugopal.

 

Before the bill was introduced, many opposition leaders raised questions about it. Congress MP KC Venugopal said, 'This kind of bill (Waqf Amendment Bill) which you are bringing in the House, at least the members should have the right to amend it. You are forcibly imposing the law. You should give time for amendment. There are many provisions for amendment.

Home Minister Amit Shah said, 'This bill was given to the Joint Parliamentary Committee, we do not have a committee like the Congress. We have a democratic committee, which brainstorms. In the Congress era, there was a committee that used to impose. Our committee discusses, deliberates based on discussion and makes changes. If the changes are not to be accepted, then what is the meaning of the committee?'
