West Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas resigns after controversy surrounding Lionel Messi's event.

Political activity has intensified in West Bengal over the Messi incident. The state's Sports Minister, Arup Biswas, has resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, citing the need for an impartial inquiry.

 

 

Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claims that his resignation has been accepted. Arup Biswas was reportedly asked to relinquish the sports portfolio amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the Youth Bharati Stadium incident.

 

 

DC Suspended

The state's Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar and Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh Kumar have been issued show-cause notices by the Chief Secretary in connection with the Messi incident. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bidhannagar has also been suspended.

 

 

Response Demanded Within 24 Hours

DGP Rajeev Kumar and Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh Kumar have been issued show-cause notices, asking them to provide an explanation within 24 hours regarding the mismanagement and lapses at the stadium on that day, and why proper coordination was not maintained with all stakeholders, including the private organizers, to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

 

 

Departmental proceedings have been initiated against DCP Anish Sarkar for alleged negligence in his duties and responsibilities on the day of the event. He has been suspended with immediate effect pending the completion of the inquiry.

 

 

The Principal Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, has also been asked to provide an explanation regarding the mismanagement and lapses that occurred on the day of the event.

 

 

Team Formed for Investigation

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The team comprises IPS officers Piyush Pandey, Javed Shamim, Muralidhar, and Supratim Sarkar.

 

 

The administrative actions clearly indicate that the state government is taking this incident very seriously and is holding senior officials accountable to prevent similar lapses in the future.
