WhatsApp's services were down for about one and a half hours in many countries of the world on Tuesday. According to the information, WhatsApp stopped working at 12.30 pm. After being closed for about one and a half hours, it started working again at 2:6 pm in the afternoon. The government has sought a report from WhatsApp's parent company Meta regarding this glitch.
In India, in many states including Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, users had complained of disruption in the meta-owned messenger service. The website tracker Down Detector informed us about the suspension of the messenger service. The news of WhatsApp not working started trending on Twitter as well. WhatsApp has more than 2 billion active monthly users worldwide.
Meta said - try to fix the service soon
The news of the closure of WhatsApp came to the fore at around 12.30 pm. An hour after the service was shut down, a spokesperson for WhatsApp's parent company Meta said – We have received information that some people are having trouble sending messages. We are trying to fix the WhatsApp service as soon as possible. However, the company did not specify the reason for the problem.
The user said - there is a problem syncing the message
A user named Ritesh, while reporting a problem with the down detector, wrote that the QR code of WhatsApp is not connecting to sync with the laptop. The message is not getting sent. Earlier, users from many cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Mumbai had also complained about the non-working of the messaging service.
How are messages sent and received in WhatsApp?
WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption. This means that only the sender and receiver can read the message. When you send a message, it is encrypted with a specific encryption protocol. WhatsApp now stores this encrypted message on its servers until it is delivered to the receiver.
Upon delivery, the receiver's device decrypts the message using a unique cryptographic key. During this entire process, WhatsApp does not know about the content of your message. WhatsApp's encryption technology is called Signal Encryption Protocol. While end-to-end encryption can make you feel theoretically secure, end-to-end encryption isn't as secure as one would expect.
Last year on October 4, the service was closed for 6 hours.
Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp platforms were closed for about 6 hours on October 4, 2021, due to which billions of users had to face problems. The impact of this outage was also visible on Facebook's shares in the US market and the company's shares fell by 6%. Facebook has 2.85 billion monthly active users worldwide. Whereas WhatsApp has 2 billion users and Instagram has 1.38 billion users.
