Once again, the anti-racism movement in America has gained strength, while the Presidential election has barely three months left. Presidential elections are to be held in the United States on November 3, 2020.
But there once again protests have intensified. Police have clashed with protesters in the US city of Seattle during protests. The rally was organized in support of the ongoing protests in Portland.
So far 45 people have been arrested in these protests and 21 policemen have been injured during this period. One person has also died during the Black Lives Matter Protest in Austin, Texas.
Local newspaper Austin Statesman has quoted eyewitnesses as saying that when the protesters gathered on the streets, someone tried to drive the protesters. After this, the person sitting in the car started firing on the group of protesters. During this time one person died.
The deceased's mother later identified him as Garrett Foster. He told news channel ABC that Garret was pulling his fiance's wheelchair while shooting. He also told that for the last 50 days, non-people were participating in anti-racist movements.
Why violence
Anti-racist movements have been going on in many parts of the world, including the United States, since the death of a black man George Floyd in police custody in the United States about two months ago. The slogan of this movement is Black Lives Matter.
It has once again sparked a debate on racism all over the world. The heroes of history are being re-evaluated. In many places including America, protesters are dropping statues of people associated with slavery. Many big companies have also supported this movement.
Protests are taking place in all 50 provinces of America. Protests are also taking place in Anna, a small village in Illinois. It is considered to be the most racist place locally. A street leading to the White House, the residence of the US President in Washington DC, has been named Black Lives Matter Plaza.
Discrimination against black people
By looking at the statistics related to crime and justice in America, it is found that the number of African-Americans is more in proportion to their total population in America in case of police firing.
Besides, the rate of arrest of African-Americans is much higher than that of whites, while the survey has revealed that both communities use the same level of drugs.
According to recently released statistics, African-Americans eat five times more prison air than whites while twice as much as Hispanic-Americans.
In 2018, African-Americans were just 13 percent of the American population, but they account for one-third of the number of people in prison in the country.
Violence has many local issues
Apart from the death of George Floyd, violence has erupted in the United States over the deaths of many more black people.
In addition to Seattle and Austin, protesters have marched in Kentucky, Aurora, Colorado, New York, Omaha, Nebraska, Los Angeles, Auckland, California, and Richmond in Virginia.
The movement has gained renewed vigor in Portland due to violent clashes, while protests stalled after police backed out earlier this month.
Despite opposition from local opposition and other state leaders in Portland, President Donald Trump decided to deploy the federal force. He said that he has taken this decision to control the situation and save government buildings from damage.
This federal force has had violent clashes with the protesters, due to which the current tension has increased and rallies are being held in support of it elsewhere.
In August last year in Colorado, a 23-year-old youngster, Eliza McClean, also died during a police arrest. During the protest, that case is also being brought to the fore.
Hundreds of black militias in Kentucky are demanding justice for 26-year-old black woman Breona Taylor. In March, he was shot in the house by the police.
Besides, police say that they have arrested at least 75 people in Omaha, Nebraska. Here the protesters are demanding justice for a 22-year-old black man named James Scurlock. James was shot by a white bar owner in May.
Police have tweeted that protesters set fire to a garbage lorry in Richmond, Virginia.
Will affect election
While elections are going to be held on one side in America, on the other hand, the protests that started in May are still going on. This whole episode is getting a lot of criticism from the Trump administration and there is talk of challenging them legally.
But some people believe that Trump's electoral strategy is also involved in such actions. Looking at the elections, in the states where the Democrats are in government, they want to show them the matters of handling law and order.
About 13 percent of the US population is black. Just before Trump was President Barack Obama, the first African-American to become President of the United States.
