Ravichandran Ashwin, the world's number-one Test bowler, did not get a chance to play in the final of the World Test Championship. Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid did not include him in the playing-11. Team India entered the match with four fast bowlers and one spinner. In the final, the Indian team had to face a defeat against Australia. Five days after the match, Ashwin's pain has spilled over. He said that it would have been better if he had played in the final.

Ashwin said in an interview that he wanted to play in the final as he played a key role in taking the team to that stage. The veteran spinner said, “It is a difficult question to answer, right? Because we are standing right after the WTC finals. I would have liked to have played because I had contributed to reaching there. Even in the final last time I took four wickets and bowled well.

Ashwin defended the coach-captain

On the question related to his performance abroad, Ashwin said that he has had an excellent record outside the country since the 2018-19 season. The Indian bowler further said, “Since 2018-19, my bowling overseas has been excellent and I have been able to win matches for the team. I am looking at this decision from the point of view of a captain or a coach and I am only speaking in his defence.

Ashwin said on this decision of the team, “The last time we were in England, the series was tied 2-2. They must have felt that a combination of four fast bowlers and one spinner would be right in England. To go to the final, he must have thought the same.

Ashwin is his critic

Ashwin said that he does not think much about what others are saying about him as he is his own biggest critic. Off Spin said, “To say about myself that someone is judging me, then it is a fool. If I'm not good at something, I'll be my own best critic. I will work on it.
