The centenary celebrations of late filmmaker-actor Raj Kapoor will be held in Mumbai on Friday. Many legends of the Indian film industry will be seen together in this grand ceremony to be held in the Andheri West area of Mumbai.
According to media reports, the entire Kapoor family including Randhir Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and others will unite in this event to pay tribute to the late filmmaker. The biggest stars of Hindi cinema including Rekha, Jeetendra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rajkumar Hirani and Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol will be attending the event to be held at PVR Infinity Mall.
As part of this grand celebration, RK Films, Film Heritage Foundation, and NFDC National Film Archive of India are celebrating Raj Kapoor 100 – The Centenary of the Greatest Showman. The celebration will see the screening of ten iconic films of Raj Kapoor across 40 cities and 135 cinemas, including PVR Inox and Cinepolis theatres. His films such as 'Aag', 'Barsaat', 'Awaara', 'Shree 420', 'Jaagte Raho', 'Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai', 'Sangam', 'Mera Naam Joker', 'Bobby' and 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili'.
The event not only honors Raj Kapoor's unique contribution to Indian cinema but also brings together eminent personalities of the film industry to celebrate the magic of films that have lasted for generations. Raj Kapoor's centenary will be celebrated on December 14, 2024.
Raj Kapoor was born in Peshawar (present-day Pakistan) and is the eldest son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor acted in and produced many films for which he received several awards, including three National Film Awards. His films 'Awara' and 'Boot Polish' were shortlisted for the Palme d'Or award at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan in 1971 for his contribution to the arts. India's highest award in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was conferred on him by the Government of India in 1988.
