The biggest upset happened on Friday in the T20 World Cup 2022. Two-time world champion West Indies crashed out of the tournament in the qualifying round itself. Ireland defeated the world champion team by 9 wickets.

This is the first time that a world-winning team has not been able to reach the main round of the World Cup. West Indies won the T20 World Cup title in 2012 and 2016. In the ICC rankings, Ireland's team is in 12th place, while the West Indies team is at number seven. In this match, West Indies neither got the support of the batsmen nor luck was in their favor.

3 reasons to lose a match

1. Irish Spinners

Ireland's spinners performed effectively. They kept giving one blow to the West Indies and the West Indies team failed to make a big score. Spinners took 4 out of 5 wickets. One wicket was taken by medium pacer McCarthy.

2. Irish Batting

The Irish opener got off to a great start after a stellar performance from the bowlers. By crossing the 100-run mark in 11 overs, every pressure was removed. Captain Balbirnie played an innings of 37 runs. The opening partnership of 73 runs with Paul Stirling. Sterling scored 56 not out and Tucker scored 47 not out.

3. West Indies' top order fail

West Indies top order failed. Brandon King (62) took over the innings in the middle order but no other batsman could support him.

Luck also left, favoring Ireland

On the fourth ball of the 11th over, Lorcan Tucker was caught trying to pull off Odeon Smith's ball. They headed towards the pavilion. Then the third umpire gave a no-ball and Tucker came back to bat again.
