The auction of the 5G spectrum will be held on July 26. The last date for applications to participate in the auction was July 8. The government will release the list of participants in the auction on July 20. Meanwhile, on Saturday, businessman Gautam Adani's group confirmed its participation in the 5G spectrum. The company says it will use it to build a private network to aid its business from airports to energy.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio and Sunil Bharti's Airtel are likely to face tough competition with Adani Group participating in the auction. Currently, Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea are the only three big private players in the telecom sector. Last month, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that by March 2023, 5G service would be available in the country and it would be 10 times faster than 4G. He had also said that a total of 72,097 MHz of spectrum would be auctioned for 20 years.

As per the auction deadline, the applicants' ownership details are to be published on July 12. A total of 72,097.85 MHz of spectrum worth at least Rs 4.3 lakh crore will be put on the block during the auction beginning July 26, 2022.

The auction will be conducted for spectrum in various low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), mid (3300 MHz), and high (26 GHz) frequency bands.
