All the former officers have given 20 years of distinguished service to the Indian Navy. These people had worked in important positions including trainers. In the year 2019, Commander Purnendu Tiwari was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest honor given to overseas Indians.
What are you doing in Qatar?
All eight Indians worked for private company Dahara Global Technologies and Consultancy Services. Indian citizens had been training Qatar's marines for the last few years. This company was working in collaboration with Qatari authorities to provide training to the marines. The company is owned by Khamis Al-Ajmi, a retired squadron leader of the Royal Oman Air Force. Ajami was also arrested along with the Indians last year but was released in November 2022. In May, Dahra closed its operations in Doha and all the people working there (mainly Indians) returned home.
How long have you been in jail in Qatar?
The eight Indians who have been sentenced to death by the Qatar court have all been former officers of the Indian Navy. These officers have been in jail in Qatar since August last year. However, what his crime is, is not yet known. Because neither India nor Qatar authorities have made the allegations against him public. Some media reports are claiming that the eight Indians were arrested in an alleged case of espionage.
Charges were filed against eight former Indian Navy servicemen on March 25 and they are being tried under Qatari law. His bail pleas had been rejected several times and the Court of First Instance in Qatar ruled against him on Thursday.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said, 'We initially received information that the Court of First Instance of Qatar has today given its verdict in the case related to eight Indian employees of Al Dahra Company. We are considering all legal options.
The Ministry of External Affairs further said that it is attaching great importance to this matter and is monitoring it closely. Will continue to provide all consular and legal assistance.
