The earthquake, which struck around 11:15 PM on Monday night, had its epicenter off the coast of Honshu Island, causing tremors to be felt across much of Japan. The tremors were so strong that they generated waves in the ocean, and a tsunami warning was issued for Japan and other countries around the Pacific Ocean.
Where was the earthquake's epicenter?
The earthquake's epicenter was located 80 km off the coast of Aomori Prefecture and at a depth of 50 km. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that a 40-centimeter tsunami hit Urakawa town in Hokkaido Prefecture and Mutsu Ogawara port in Aomori Prefecture. According to public broadcaster NHK, several people were injured at a hotel in Hachinohe city, Aomori.
