President's Rule, which had been in effect in Manipur for nearly a year, has been lifted. The Union Home Ministry issued a notification on Wednesday announcing the immediate withdrawal of President's Rule from the state. This decision paves the way for the formation of an elected government in the state once again. President Droupadi Murmu signed the declaration.
The declaration issued by the President states that the decision was taken using the powers conferred under Clause (2) of Article 356 of the Constitution. Accordingly, the proclamation issued on February 13, 2025, is being revoked with effect from February 4, 2026. This decision is expected to restore political stability in the state.

Why was President's Rule imposed?
President's Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13, 2025. This decision was taken after the resignation of the then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
