Bengaluru, Feb 10 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) landslide win in the Delhi assembly election was an outcome of its offer to the people who want their basic needs met and corruption eliminated, Manipal Global Education chairman T.V. Mohandas Pai said Tuesday.
"AAP offered people what they wanted, their basic needs and elimination of corruption. Disenchantment of the poor and lower middle class with the quality of life in Delhi, lack of basic needs and insecurity, corruption and oppression by officials led to its landslide victory," Pai told IANS here.
Of the 70 constituencies in the Delhi legislative assembly, the AAP won in 67, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in three while the Congress drew a blank.
"The main lesson from the Delhi assembly results is that the BJP campaign did not sell and the Congress was lost with no focus. Mainstream and regional parties have to focus on meeting the basic needs of citizens like water, power, sewage, housing, transport, a non-corrupt government and good police," said Pai, a former Infosys director.
With elections due for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) this summer, Pai said the ground was fertile for an upbeat AAP to enter the fray, as people here were also disenchanted with the quality of life, a very corrupt local body, which is ruled by the BJP, and a disinterested Congress government at the state level.
"My message to the people of this city is that they should be active in demanding from the BBMP and the state government to deliver on basic needs and give a corruption-free administration," Pai added.
