Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is almost certain to step down from the post of BCCI President. On this Ganguly has said in Kolkata that you cannot always play for the team nor can you always be in administration.
During this, the BCCI President gave a hint of the future and said- 'They are thinking of doing something big and moving forward. He has been an administrator for a long time and now wants to do something else.
50-year-old Ganguly said- 'I was the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal for 5 years. I have been the President of BCCI for years. As an administrator, you have to contribute a lot to the team and make things better. As a player, I understood it. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as an administrator. You cannot always play in the team or be in the administration.
Let us inform here that it was decided to remove Ganguly from this post 3 days ago. Media reports claimed that Ganguly had not even filed his nomination for the post of Board President. In such a situation, Roger Binny, who was part of the 1983 World Champion team, is almost certain to become the board president.
Reports also said that Ganguly wanted to continue in the post, but the board meeting held in Mumbai on October 11 was not supported by representatives from different state boards.
Ganguly was offered the IPL chairman's post, but the former Indian captain turned it down, saying he does not want to head any of its sub-committees once he steps down from the BCCI president.
Today is the last date to withdraw
Friday is the last date for the withdrawal of nominations in the BCCI elections. Candidates can withdraw their names till the evening. The list of those who made the right nominations will be released on Saturday. After that elections will be held on October 18.
All the officers will be elected unopposed
Sources said- 'This time all the office bearers of BCCI will be elected unopposed as no other candidate's application has come for any post.' The list of candidates who have made the correct nomination will be released on October 15.
Ganguly may go to ICC, and Barkley's tenure will end next month
It is believed that Ganguly can present a claim for the post of ICC President. The tenure of current ICC chairman Gregor Barclay ends in November. However, sources say that it is difficult to get support from the board.
Ganguly's tenure is ending this month
Ganguly took over as the BCCI President on 23 October 2019. At the same time, Jay Shah became the BCCI secretary on 24 October 2019. The term for both ends this month.
