Kolkata, Feb 5 (IANS) Welcoming Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose's decision to quit the party and parliament, the BJP, Congress and CPI-M Thursday said more and more people will leave the party.
Bose quit as member of parliament as also from the party Thursday, a day after getting bail in a case related to the Saradha chit fund scam. Politics is "not my cup of tea", he said.
Communist Party of India-Marxist's Sujan Chakraborty said Bose is regretting the decision to join Trinamool and buying his way in after his self-respect was hurt while working for the party.
"The more people have got involved with the party, the more destruction it has brought upon them. It is O.K. (on Bose quitting).
"He is not basically a political party person but he was encouraged by somebody that one could buy a Rajya Sabha post, so now he has understood after buying his way in... he is repenting," Chakraborty said.
He said gradually others will understand the same and leave.
"More and more people will quit Trinamool. Maybe Bose understood his self-respect and pride are getting hurt. But understand, there are no good opportunities in Trinamool and as people understand this, more people will leave," the CPI-M heavyweight said.
Bose, who spent 75 days in police and jail custody after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, announced his decision to quit as an MP and also from the primary membership of Trinamool in a media release here.
He also said pressure from his family shaped his decision.
BJP state president Rahul Sinha said Bose went to jail for his association with the Trinamool.
"Because of his association with Trinamool he had to go to jail. He did the most intelligent thing by quitting," he said.
Former state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya said Bose had no other way out and requested him to make his reasons for resigning public.
"He had no other way out. Since he had borne the burden of sins for so long, maybe he thought because of working for the party, he was becoming the victim and it wasn't possible to tolerate it anymore.
"But I would urge him to reveal the reasons to the public so they can also glean an idea as to what really happens," Bhattacharya said.
