On the second day of his Gujarat visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored in Ahmedabad. On this occasion, he started the local production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS lithium-ion battery plant in Gujarat. This plant is a joint venture of Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. During this, Suzuki Motor Corporation President and Representative Director Toshihiro Suzuki and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel were also present. Addressing the people present at the program, the Prime Minister said that 'Now the EVs that will run in dozens of countries of the world will have 'Made in India' written on them.
During his address, PM Modi said, 'Today, in this gaiety of Ganesh Utsav, a new chapter is being added to India's 'Make in India' journey. Make in India, Make for the World is a big leap towards that goal of ours. From today, electric vehicles made in India will be exported to 100 countries. Along with this, hybrid battery electrolyte manufacturing is also starting today.'
He said that this day is also giving a new dimension to the friendship between India and Japan. I congratulate all the countrymen, Japan, and the Suzuki Company. The seeds of India's success story were sown about 13 years ago. In 2012, when I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, I allotted land to Maruti Suzuki in Hansalpur. The vision at that time was of a self-reliant India, of Make in India. Our efforts then are playing such a big role in fulfilling the resolutions of the country today.
PM Modi said, 'India has the power of democracy. India has a positive demographic factor of demography. We also have a huge pool of skilled workforce. Therefore, this creates a win-win situation for every partner of ours. Today, Suzuki Japan is manufacturing in India, and the vehicles made here are being exported back to Japan. This is not only a symbol of the strength of relations between India and Japan, but also reflects the global trust in India.'
He said that today the whole world is looking towards India. No state should be left behind at such a time. Every state should take advantage of this opportunity. Investors coming to India should be so confused that they think, Should I go to this state or that state… I invite all the states to come, compete for reforms, compete for pro-development policies, and compete for good governance. Ensure your participation in accelerating the pace of making a developed India by 2047.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi flagged off Maruti Suzuki's first global electric car e-Vitara from Hansalpur plant. During this time, he also inaugurated the hybrid battery electrode production plant. The Prime Minister called it historic in the direction of India's self-reliance.
