Recently, a man threw a shoe at CJI BR Gavai in the Supreme Court. This incident sparked a new debate in the country. Now, about a week after this incident, a similar incident has come to light in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
On Tuesday, during proceedings in the Ahmedabad Sessions Court, a man threw a slipper at the judge. Security personnel immediately detained him. However, the District Judge let him go and declined to take any action.
The man was upset with the court's decision.
According to reports, the man who threw the slipper at the District Judge was upset with the acquittal of four accused in a case he had filed. Inspector PH Bhati of Karanj Police Station provided information regarding this matter.
He stated that the man became angry after his appeal was dismissed and threw a shoe at the judge. He further stated that although he was apprehended by court staff, the judge let him go and instructed them not to take any action against him.
Misbehavior with a Judge in the Courtroom
It is noteworthy that, enraged by the court's decision, the petitioner began speaking loudly and misbehaving in the courtroom. People present tried to calm him down, but the man threw his slippers at the judge. The judge narrowly escaped, and court staff and police immediately apprehended the complainant.
Following this incident, the Gujarat Judicial Services Association passed a resolution. The resolution stated that the attacks, threats, and vandalism against the Supreme Court and the City Civil Court in Ahmedabad are strongly condemned.
The resolution further stated that such acts are a direct attack on the independence, dignity, security, and functioning of the judiciary. Courts must function free from fear, intimidation, or violence. Any intimidation or attack on judicial officers, court premises, or their infrastructure undermines the foundations of democracy and justice.
