West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again leveled serious allegations against the Election Commission. She said, "The Commission is disregarding its own statutory reforms of the past 20 years, forcing voters to re-establish their identity." It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had previously raised several serious issues with Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in another letter.

Fifth Letter to the Election Commissioner

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote another letter to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Monday. This is her fifth letter. In it, she expressed concern over irregularities in the 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR) process of the voter list.

What did CM Mamata Banerjee say?

Mamata Banerjee claims that artificial intelligence (AI) was used to digitize the 2002 voter list, leading to serious errors. She says that due to these technical flaws, genuine voters have been wrongly categorized as having 'discrepancies'. This is causing immense hardship to ordinary citizens.

Allegations against the Election Commission

The Chief Minister accused the Election Commission of disregarding its own established procedures. She said that the reforms implemented over the past two decades are being ignored, forcing voters to prove their identity again. She termed this arbitrary and against the spirit of the Constitution.

Questions about the hearing process

Banerjee also stated that no receipts are being issued for the documents submitted during the SIR process. She described the hearing process as completely mechanical and insensitive. She said that this process lacks human empathy and is undermining the foundations of democracy.
