There is a saying: “The interest is dearer than the principal.” This adage is often cited to express the deep affection elders hold for their grandchildren. Indeed, grandparents—both paternal and maternal—often shower their grandchildren with even more love and indulgence than they did their own children. Such was the bond shared between Asha Bhosle and her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle. When Zanai released her debut song, Asha Tai was full of praise for her. Zanai, too, affectionately referred to her grandmother as her “Little Asha.” Her grandmother’s passing has left her devastated. Today, Monday, during Asha Bhosle’s funeral rites, Zanai’s tears flowed ceaselessly. Visitors arriving to pay their respects offered words of comfort and consolation to Zanai.
