After wheat, now preparations for a ban on sugar export, this is the plan of the government

The central government is planning to ban the export of sugar like wheat. This has been claimed in a report by the news agency Reuters. According to the report, the government may restrict sugar exports for the first time in nearly six years to check the jump in domestic prices. It is also possible that the government may limit exports this season to 10 million tonnes.

 

Largest producer: Let us tell you that India is the largest producer of sugar in the world. At the same time, it is the second-largest exporter after Brazil. India has exported 7.5 million tonnes of sugar till May 18 in the current marketing year ending September. The major importing countries from India are Indonesia, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and African countries.

 

Export figures: About 6.2 lakh tonnes, 38 lakh tonnes, and 59.60 lakh tonnes of sugar were exported in the marketing years 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20 respectively. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka account for about 80 percent of the total sugar production in the country. Other major sugarcane-producing states of the country include Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Haryana, and Punjab.
