The whole world is churning out climate change. In such a situation, it is necessary to consider the latest situation in India also. The ever-increasing air pollution in the country has been a serious problem for India for some years now. Toxic air is not only harmful to health, but it is also a cause of concern for the environment. This is an alarm bell for India. According to the Health Effects Institute, air pollution was the cause of more than one million premature deaths in India in 2015. In the year 2019, 18 percent of the deaths were due to air pollution. Not only this, but now it is also affecting the economy of the country. This can be gauged from the fact that this year the economy has suffered a loss of about 14 percent of GDP. Air pollution has had serious negative effects on various sectors, including labor productivity and agricultural products. Let us know the opinion of expert environmentalist Vijay Baghel on the latest situation of air pollution in the country.
The shocking report of the Indian Council for Medical Research
The Indian Council for Medical Research has said in its recent report that air pollution can be held responsible for the deaths of 16.7 lakh people in India in the year 2019. It has also been told in this report that deaths due to household air pollution have decreased by 64 percent from 1990 to 2019, but in the meantime, deaths due to air pollution have increased by 115 percent. . Air pollution is responsible for forty percent of cases of lung diseases. At the same time, air pollution is responsible for up to 60 percent of the deaths of ischemic heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and premature newborn babies. It has been said in this report that India's dream of becoming a five trillion dollar economy by 2024 may be shattered due to deaths, diseases, and economic losses due to air pollution if we do not take care in time.
India ranks third in the list of countries with poor air quality
1- Environmentalist Vijay Baghel (Green Man) says that in the last few years, various factors like urbanization, industrialization, and increasing population have rapidly deteriorated the air quality of India. This can be gauged from the fact that according to the report of IQ Air, in the year 2020, India was at number three in the list of countries with the worst air quality in the whole world. Of the 20 most air-polluted cities in the world, 14 were in the northern region only.
2- He said that the air pollution caused by industrialization can be gauged from the fact that the level of air pollution had come down significantly due to the shutdown of industrial operations during the lockdown. This sent a strong message to the world that we need to strike a balance somewhere between our development and the environment. Now the country and the world need to create a new development model. Governments have to give serious thought to this.
3- He said that undoubtedly the government has made plans to deal with air pollution. For this, many regulatory agencies and other institutions have been formed. But the problem has become so complex that this diagnosis is insufficient. He said that because of the present situation, a better and more effective model will have to be adopted to improve the air quality in the country. He said it is a big challenge to deal with in densely populated urban areas. To eliminate the problem of air pollution, the private sector has to be encouraged to partner with each other and with the government.
4- He said that air pollution is a big challenge. To deal with this, the government should prepare such a strategy so that every person is motivated to work in this direction. This requires a collective resolve so that we are committed to a future where everyone can enjoy clean air. For this, the government will have to provide accurate and timely information on air pollution.
5- He said that how serious is the threat of air pollution in India, can be gauged from the fact that in the year 2019, the number of deaths due to pollution, not even include the reasons like road accidents, suicide, and terrorism. Happened. He said that we have no other option but to control air pollution by taking drastic measures.
6- He said that the danger of air pollution can be understood in such a way that today the PM 2.5 index in Delhi is at 300, so per person living in Delhi has suffered a loss equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes. He said that more than 50 percent of the patients are non-smokers. The number of women among them is increasing. This is the consequence of this.
people living in poisonous air
Most of the states of North India are in the grip of air pollution. A large part of India, from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, has been in the grip of air pollution for a long time. He said that people living in the northern part of the country suffer from pollution almost throughout the year, except for the rainy months. He said that the air that people living from the capital Delhi to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh are currently breathing can make even healthy people sick and pose a serious threat to those who are already sick. Recently, the index of PM 2.5, a very fine pollutant in Delhi, was 462, which should be less than 50. The corresponding PM 2.5 level is 17 in the UK capital London, 38 in New York, 20 in Berlin, and 59 in Beijing.
