Some Indian media institutions have claimed that slogans of the name of Indian PM Narendra Modi were raised during a debate in the Parliament of Pakistan.
It is being said that at that time there was a debate in Parliament about the murder of a teacher in France. Then Pakistani MPs deliberately took the name of PM Modi.
But, were there slogans in the Parliament of Pakistan named after the Indian Prime Minister? What is truth?
What happened in the Parliament?
On Monday, the Leader of the Opposition in Pakistan Khwaja Asif was demanding voting on the proposal to condemn the publication of controversial cartoons of Prophet Mohammad in France. Other MPs were also involved in this demand.
A teacher was killed after showing these controversial cartoons in a class in France. Teachers were teaching about freedom of expression.
Anger was expressed in some Muslim countries on the statement made by French President Emmanuel Macron condemning the incident. His statement was also criticized by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In Pakistan, both the government and the opposition brought their respective proposals on this dispute.
During the debate, when Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi started addressing the House, the Opposition started raising slogans of 'voting', 'voting'.
The opposition was demanding voting on its proposal rather than the government's proposal.
A short video of these two minutes was played on Indian media channels, digital platforms, and social media, in which no reference to the video was made.
Times Now, India TV, Economics Times, and social media users all made the false claim that the opposition leaders in Pakistan shouted 'Modi-Modi' slogans to embarrass Imran Khan.
After this, the Economic Times has removed its report. Times Now has deleted its tweet, but its report is still present on the Internet, in which the video clip of the debate in the Pakistani Parliament is engaged.
Is Modi's name taken in Parliament?
PM Modi's name was taken in Pakistan's parliament but later, and in some other context.
PM Modi's name was revealed when Shah Mehmood Qureshi accused the opposition of speaking according to the Indian agenda.
During the heated debate, Foreign Minister Qureshi claimed that the opposition is trying to create a rift within the army. He called it an attempt to create an anti-Pakistan opinion.
Then the supporters of the government started shouting this slogan in Urdu - 'Modi's friend, he is gaddar, gaddar'. They can be heard chanting these slogans.
But, nothing has been said about this in the news that has been run in India.
The video which is being claimed in India claiming that the opposition in the Pakistani Parliament shouted slogans in support of Modi, is irrelevant.
You can see the debate in the parliament of Pakistan here.
It has happened before when incidents in Pakistan have been misrepresented in India.
