The President said the humanitarian work done by the Army during crises and disasters is a testimony to their kindness and compassion. Your extraordinary valor and courage will continue to inspire generations to come.

 

'Government is committed to the welfare of the armed forces and their families'

 

Prime Minister Modi said the Central Government is committed to the welfare of the armed forces and their families. In a post on 'X', the Prime Minister said, 'Today, on Army Day, we salute the unwavering courage of the Indian Army, which stands as the sentinel of our country's security. We also remember the sacrifices of the braves who ensure the safety of crores of Indians every day.'

Why is Army Day celebrated?

 

On this day in 1949, the then Lieutenant General KM Cariappa became the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, replacing India's last British Commander-in-Chief General Francis Butcher. That is why Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January. Cariappa later became a Field Marshal.
