Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajiv Shukla may become the acting president of the board in July. News agency ANI has given this information quoting sources. Current BCCI President Roger Binny will turn 70 on July 19. As per the rules, the age of the BCCI President should not exceed 70 years. 65-year-old Shukla may get the role of acting president for three months. Sources said that Rajiv Shukla may stand for election for the post of full-time president of the board during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September.
Roger Binny was elected as the 36th President of BCCI in October 2022. He replaced former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly had completed his three-year term. Binny was then the only candidate to file nomination for the top post.
After Binny became BCCI President, India won two limited-overs format ICC tournaments. India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The historic Women's Premier League (WPL) was also started under Binny's chairmanship. Domestic cricket got better encouragement during his tenure as president. Players' salaries increased and appropriate and strict steps were taken to get the senior players of Team India to play in domestic tournaments.
All-rounder Binny, who was the main player of the 1983 World Cup winning team, has represented India in 27 Test matches and 72 ODIs. He took 47 wickets in Test matches and scored 830 runs with the help of five half-centuries. In 72 ODIs, he took 77 wickets and scored 629 runs with the help of one half-century. He made an important contribution to helping India win the first ODI World Cup (1983). He was the highest wicket-taker for India in the 1983 World Cup with 18 wickets. Binny has previously served as a member of the BCCI selection committee.
