Benefits of new IT law: WhatsApp banned 18.58 lakh accounts in January, Facebook deleted 1.16 crore posts

After the implementation of the new IT Act, social media companies are releasing their reports at the end of every month. According to the new report, WhatsApp has banned 18.58 lakh accounts in January 2022. Facebook has also taken action on more than 1.16 crore content related to policy violations. Policy violations range from bullying and harassment to dangerous institutions and abusal activity.

 

 

WhatsApp has received complaints from 495 such accounts in January 2022 demanding the ban of 285 accounts. Of these, 24 accounts have been banned. Most of the 18.58 lakh accounts have been banned by the company for their dangerous behavior.

 

 

WhatsApp took this action between January 1 and January 31, 2022. Complaints were received regarding abuse with many accounts. Earlier in December also, WhatsApp had banned more than 20 lakh accounts.

 

According to a Meta report, apart from taking action on 11.6 crore content on Facebook, Instagram has taken action against about 32 lakh content in 12 categories in the same period. Meta Way has processed 6.5 million content just for spam. Action has been taken on 3,02,900 content of terrorism along with 2,33,600 content related to harassment and 2,56,500 related to suicide.
