India has successfully tested the indigenously developed anti-drone state-of-the-art hypersonic missile system Bhargavastra. This missile is equipped with the ability to fly five times faster than the speed of sound and identify and destroy small and swarm drones from a distance of 2.5 km. With this achievement, India has made its security in the sky almost impenetrable.
The Bhargavastra system has been designed and developed by Solar Defense and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) in hard kill mode. The micro rockets used in this system were intensively tested at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, Odisha, in which all the set targets were achieved.
On May 13, three tests of this system were conducted in the presence of senior officials of Military Air Defense (AAD). Two tests were conducted by firing one rocket each. One test was conducted by firing two rockets in salvo mode within two seconds. All the rockets performed as expected and its modern technology proved effective in reducing drone attacks on a large scale.
Integrated solution to drone threats
With its advanced capability to detect and destroy drones, the Bhargavastra system is an integrated solution to counter drone threats.
Deployment is possible even in inaccessible areas
It has been designed for deployment in different areas as well as areas with an altitude of more than 5,000 meters above sea level. It can prove to be a milestone in the security of the country. Especially in recent times, the way drone attacks have been carried out on India by Pakistan, there is a great need for a strong anti-drone system.
Detects threats in a moment
The cost of this system is low. Its radar can detect air threats from 6 to 10 km away in a minute and neutralize them in a few seconds. It is equipped with the ability to destroy small drones coming at a distance of up to 2.5 km. It is equipped with C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence).
Hence the name Bhargavastra
This system is named after the divine weapon of Lord Parashurama. The divine weapon of Lord Parashurama was named Bhargava Astra, which was considered to be very destructive. It is also mentioned in the Mahabharata, according to which Karna learned to use Bhargavastra from Lord Parashurama and also used it in the Mahabharata.
