Kolkata, March 24 (IANS) Football icon Bhaichung Bhutia, contesting the Lok Sabha polls as a Trinamool Congress candidate from West Bengal's Darjeeling constituency, possesses assets worth more than Rs.16 crore.
According to the affidavit filed by Bhutia Monday, his personal moveable properties are worth Rs.3,88,58,983 while that of his wife Madhuri and three other dependents come to a total of Rs. 1,08,47,738.
The moveable properties also include cash in hand to the tune Rs.2,64,941 and Rs. 2,70,996 with the former India soccer captain and his wife respectively.
Besides investing in debentures and mutual funds, the ex-India forward has insurance policies worth over Rs.90,00,000. His moveable property includes an Audi Q5 vehicle which he bought in 2012 for Rs.41,84,200.
He has immoveable properties to the tune of Rs.13,47,00,000 of which plots of agricultural land in Sikkim worth Rs.21,00,000 are inherited.
Bhutia has a bungalow on a land of 5,455 square feet with a current market value of Rs.2 crore at Vedic Village in Kolkata's north eastern outskirts, and another land at south Kolkata's Kasba presently valued at Rs.6 crore including the construction. His land at Sikkim's Nabey is now valued at Rs 1.75 crore.
He also has personal liabilities to the tune of Rs.1,28,12,876 in form of loans from banks and financial institutions while his wife owes Rs.13,40,000.
The soccer icon has never been accused or convicted of any offence. As regards his educational, he completed his class 10 from Tashi Namgyal Academy in his native Gangtok in 1993.
