Bird Flu in Humans The first case of bird flu has come to light in humans. Chile has detected the first case of bird flu in a human, following which the country is in a state of panic. Giving information on Wednesday, the country's Health Ministry said that a 53-year-old man has been diagnosed with bird flu. This person had severe symptoms of influenza, but they found that the patient was in stable condition.

Tracing the source of infection

After detecting a bird flu patient, the Chilean government is investigating the source of infection as well as other people who came in contact with the patient. Cases of H5N1 bird flu have been reported in wild animals in Chile since late last year. Recent cases in industrial farms have forced the government to stop poultry exports.

No case of human-to-human transmission was found

Cases of these flu have also been detected in industrial poultry farming in Argentina, but Brazil, the world's biggest exporter of poultry, is currently free of it. Chilean health officials noted that the virus can be transmitted from birds or marine mammals to humans, but there are no known cases of human-to-human transmission.

Vaccine is also being made for bird flu

Earlier this year, Ecuador confirmed its first case of human transmission of bird flu in a 9-year-old girl. Global health officials have said the risk of transmission between humans is low, but vaccine makers are preparing bird flu shots for humans.
