Shiv Sena and BJP have united in the debate over freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said on Wednesday that Veer Savarkar had never apologized to the British. On Tuesday itself, Rajnath Singh had claimed that Veer Savarkar had written a mercy petition to the British at the behest of Mahatma Gandhi. Controversy has erupted over this statement of Rajnath Singh and many parties including Congress have questioned his statement. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has asked how did the talk between Gandhi and Savarkar take place, saying that Rajnath Singh's claim is wrong. Apart from this, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi taunted that these people can declare Savarkar as the father of the nation.
Talking to the media on the same matter, Sanjay Raut said that a freedom fighter who has been in jail for more than a decade can adopt a strategy to fulfill his purpose so that he comes out of jail.
