New Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS) In an organisational revamp, the Congress Monday appointed Amrinder Singh Raja Brar as national president of its youth wing, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC).
Brar, who succeeded Rajiv Satav, appealed to the Youth Congress workers to take on "anti-poor and anti-people policies" of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government, a party leader told IANS.
Soon after assuming office in the presence of senior Congress leaders like Sheila Dikshit, Salman Khurshid, C.P. Joshi and Sachin Pilot, Brar, who is IYC's 17th national president, along with party workers led a protest march to the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters shouting slogans against the government for taking ordinance route on important bills including the Land Acquisition Bill.
Several party workers were injured as the Delhi Police baton-charged the protesters and Brar was himself taken into police custody, he said adding that the injured were being treated at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital.
