Today is the last day of the auction of gifts received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This auction is taking place online. Bidding for these gifts can be done from 11 am to 6 pm on the website created for this, pmmementos.gov.in. This year, 1200 gifts and souvenirs received by the Prime Minister from India and abroad are being e-auctioned.
The Prime Minister's Office ie PMO has fixed the base price of these gifts. This price ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 50 lakh for different items. The proceeds from the auction will be used for the Namami Gange project. Funds from a similar auction in 2018 were used for the cleanliness mission.
Models of Ayodhya-Varanasi temples in auction
The Shri Ram temple to be built in Ayodhya this year and the newly developed Kashi-Viswanath corridor in Varanasi are special attractions. Apart from these, a racket autographed by shuttler K Srikanth and autographed sports jerseys of wrestling, hockey, lawn bowling, and para-powerlifting teams are included in the collection. The gifts listed this year include a Madhubani painting depicting the corona pandemic and vaccination and a chess set given to the PM at the Chennai Chess Olympiad.
E-auction started on Modi's birthday
The Ministry of Culture had started the e-auction of gifts received by PM Modi on his birthday i.e. 17 September. Earlier this auction was to be held till October 2, which was extended till October 12. The gifts sold through the e-auction include turbans, jackets, paintings, and bows found by the Prime Minister. Apart from these, a framed painting made of thread, a mace of Lord Hanuman, and a metallic statue of Sardar Patel have also been auctioned.
Gifts were auctioned for the first time in 2018
The first auction of gifts received by Modi after becoming the Prime Minister in 2014 was held in 2018 when 1900 gifts were listed. After this 2019, 2772 gifts were auctioned 2019. This auction did not happen in 2020 due to Corona. At the same time, in the last year i.e. 2021, 2700 gifts were auctioned.
Neeraj Chopra's spear was auctioned for 1.5 crores
The highest price from the auction of gifts received by the Prime Minister last year was for the javelin of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. His spear was auctioned for 1.5 crore rupees. Last year, the auction held in three phases fetched more than Rs 16 crore.
