These days large population of the world is 'imprisoned' in their homes for the prevention of corona virus. Lockdown is in force till May 3 in India too. During this time people are allowed to go out only for essential items. The economy has come to a complete standstill due to the lockdown, which has started impacting the common people. It is being said that the corona virus can be eradicated only after complete vaccination. But there is no time limit for the vaccine. Experts believe that it may take another one to one and a half years to become a vaccine. In such a situation, a new term is coming before people. This is herd immunity.
Experts through Herd Immunity say that when a large population of the world becomes infected with the corona virus, then it will also develop immunity. After this, corona virus will not have much effect on people.
Many doctors and experts believe that if the virus spreads, the immunity of people will soon develop immunity to fight it. However, this does not reduce the danger. Due to more people being affected by the virus, hospitals in the country will be affected. It will also be seen that if more people are sick then how many hospitals will be available for their treatment? In such a situation, more and more people can also die due to virus. Experts say that is why more people are favoring lockdown.
At the same time, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhov, an infection epidemiologist at the World Health Organization (WHO), says that there has been no confirmation that people who have been exposed to the corona virus develop a complete immunity. Could it be done or not and if it happens then for how long? So governments should wait for the vaccine.
The UK had supported it in the early times, but as matters progressed thereafter, Prime Minister Boris Johnson implemented a lockdown. He banned the gathering of people at one place.
Can Herd Immunity technology work in India?
Meanwhile, researchers at Princeton University and the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy (CDDEP) say that herd immunity techniques can prove effective in fighting corona in India. According to Vice.com, the researchers are saying that this strategy can actually work in a country like India as the population of India has a higher number of youth, which will significantly reduce the risk of their hospitals being admitted.
'No country can bear the burden of lockdown'
Expert Jayaprakash Mulial tells Bloomberg that no country can bear the burden of a long-term lockdown. At least not a country like India at all. You can actually reach the herd immunity, preventing the infection from spreading in the elderly. At the same time, when the herd immunity reaches a sufficient number, then this virus will stop automatically. This will also help the elderly.
