The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Chennai will receive light to moderate rain in the next three hours. The IMD said in a statement that during the next three hours, thunder and lightning at one or two places in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipettai, Vellore, Thirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain.

Earlier on March 1, the Meteorological Center (RMC) Chennai predicted light to moderate rain at isolated places over South Tamil Nadu on March 1 and March 4. The Meteorological Department had predicted that easterly and northeasterly winds dominate the region in the lower tropospheric levels, which would bring light to moderate rains on March 1 and March 4.
The Meteorological Department said that although the maximum temperature has increased over the entire state, rains will occur over south coastal Tamil Nadu due to the prevailing northeast winds over the region in the lower troposphere. Earlier, on February 28, the IMD predicted light to moderate rainfall at isolated places over Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Sivagangai, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram districts and Karaikal regions of Tamil Nadu.
